Resumen

Este estudio tuvo como propósito identificar el estado de elección de carrera, la certeza de elección de carrera y las preferencias vocacionales en estudiantes (n = 2,316) de la escuela Preparatoria 1 de la Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, durante el ciclo escolar 1996-1997. Todos respondieron un cuestionario diseñado para identificar sexo, edad, grado escolar, estado de elección de carrera, certeza de elección de carrera y preferencia vocacional nombre de la carrera elegida. Los resultados indicaron que el 83% (n = 1,847) de los estudiantes ya había decidido su carrera y que la certeza de la elección se incrementa con la edad. Se encontraron diferencias significativas en el estado de la decisión tanto por edad como por sexo, así como en la preferencia por las carreras. El promedio de la certeza de la elección de carrera fue de M = 78. Se discuten las implicaciones de los resultados para la práctica de la orientación.
