Abstract

Linguists and language teaching experts such as Saussure, Pit Corder, Wilkins, Spolsky, Stern and others have expressed interesting points of view regarding the interaction between these two disciplines. The first part of this documentary research aims to establish the rationale for calling the teaching of a foreign or second language "Applied Linguistics". The second section attempts to present a clear definition of the distinctions raised about the different branches of linguistics as a theory and the implications it represents when used in practice. The conclusions aim to emphasize the importance of the study of this discipline for those who are in charge of language teaching.
