Resumen

Los estudios de casos han sido el instrumento didáctico central en la preparación de abogados, médicos, psiquiatras y, más recientemente, administradores de negocios. En el caso del magisterio latinoamericano como un recurso igualmente valioso, sin embargo nada sabemos de cómo se usa, quiénes lo usan y con qué resultados.El presente trabajo presenta un resumen acerca de la utilización de los estudios de casos en varias profesiones. Pasa a discutir las ventajas y limitaciones de este sistema en la preparación de profesores. Posteriormente describe cómo se utiliza el método de caso en el programa de preparación de profesores de la Universidad Estatal de San Diego en el Valle Imperial. Finalmente, plantea las interrogantes más apremiantes para utilizar el método de caso como una alternativa didáctica en los programas de preparación de profesores en Latinoamérica.
